Sisters arrested after stealing more than R$ 1,000 in picanha cuts from supermarket in Governador Valadares
Two sisters were arrested for stealing over R$ 1,000 worth of picanha cuts from a supermarket in Brazil.
In Governador Valadares, Brazil, two sisters aged 34 and 37 were apprehended for stealing more than R$ 1,000 worth of picanha cuts from a local supermarket. The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning, during which the sisters were caught in the act by store security personnel while trying to leave the premises. The supermarket, situated between the Altinópolis and Grã-Duquesa neighborhoods, immediately involved the local police after the theft was reported.
Upon arrival, the police found the sisters restrained by the supermarket staff, with the elder sibling taking responsibility for the theft. However, surveillance footage contradicted her claim, revealing that both women were involved in planning and executing the theft. The sisters claimed that the stolen meat was intended for their personal consumption, indicating an attempt to justify their actions, despite the substantial value of the items taken, which also included two bottles of bathing oil.
Following the incident, the sisters were formally charged and detained at the Police Civil Delegation. This case highlights issues around petty theft and the growing challenges supermarkets face with shoplifting, especially in times of economic strain where food prices are a pressing concern for many families in Brazil.
