NAPTIP DG calls for grassroots support to tackle human trafficking

The Director General of NAPTIP emphasizes the need for community involvement and awareness in combating human trafficking in Nigeria.

Binta Adamu Bello, the Director General of the National Agency Against Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), highlighted the importance of grassroots mobilization and awareness in addressing the issue of human trafficking in Nigeria. During a recent sensitization program held at Akesan Community Grammar School in Ikenne Local Government area, Bello urged various stakeholders including religious leaders and traditional rulers to actively participate in efforts to combat trafficking in their communities.

The initiative aims to educate and inform the public about the dangers and signs of human trafficking, which continues to be a pressing problem in Nigeria. With the support of the Ogun State Government and collaborations with organizations like the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, NAPTIP is facilitating programs that target schools and communities to raise awareness and implement preventive measures against traffickers.

Bello's call for community involvement is critical, as local engagements have been identified as essential strategies in effectively fighting trafficking networks. The success of these programs could lead to more informed communities, stronger resistance to trafficking, and possibly inspire a model that can be replicated nationwide as Nigeria continues to confront this significant social challenge.
