Ogun, NAPTIP deepen collaboration against human trafficking
The Ogun State Government is working closely with NAPTIP and other partners to combat human trafficking through educational programs and community collaborations.
The Ogun State Government has reinforced its commitment to combat human trafficking in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and various stakeholders. During an event at Muslim Secondary School in Abeokuta, Dr. Oluwabisi Akinola-Okereafor, the Director of Education Support Services in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, highlighted this collaborative effort as vital in addressing the escalating problem of human trafficking in the region.
The initiative includes a sensitisation program aimed at educating students about the dangers and ramifications of human trafficking. This program is being executed through the establishment of the Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Persons Vanguard Club, which has recently inducted around 30 students. These students were provided with educational materials to enhance their learning experience and serve as advocates against trafficking in their communities.
Crucially, this educational initiative is funded by the Government of the Netherlands and implemented in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in tackling this urgent issue. The Ogun State Government's proactive approach reflects a significant local effort in the fight against human trafficking, aiming to raise awareness and empower young people to become ambassadors for change in their society.
