In an unprecedented research initiative, Berlin has published a bilingual anthology titled 'Between Sweet and Bitter – Grenzlandschaften' through EB-Verlag. This project aims to elevate Arab émigré creativity from transient contexts to the esteemed realm of academic archives. Spearheaded by the department of Arab Studies at the University of Bonn in collaboration with the 'Diwan – the Arab Cultural House in Berlin,' the anthology represents a foundational research project focusing on indexing Arabic poetry written in Europe as a distinct literary phenomenon with its unique historical contexts and aesthetic deviations, rather than being viewed through a folkloric or traditional Orientalist lens.

The anthology spans over 400 pages and includes selected works from 55 poets of various Arab nationalities residing in 11 European countries. It aims not merely to compile a collection of poetry but also to transform the scattered poetic texts into a standalone literary field, worthy of in-depth academic study. The editors have made a sincere effort to convey the rich tapestry of contemporary Arab poetic landscapes, providing readers and scholars a structured overview of the significant contributions made by Arab poets in Europe.

This initiative highlights the growing importance of Arab diaspora literature and aims to foster a deeper understanding of the cultural and artistic expressions that emerge from the experiences of migration and exile. By creating an academic resource that documents and analyzes these poetic works, the project endeavors to challenge traditional narratives and shed light on the complexities and nuances of Arab voices in Europe today.
