Applications open for SUS Experiences in Abaré in May; see how to participate
The Brazilian health ministry is inviting applications for the 'National Program of Experiences in SUS' to promote unique health experiences, focusing on the challenges of access to health in the Amazon region.
The Associação da Rede Unida, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Brazil, has announced the opening of applications for the 'National Program of Experiences in the Unified Health System' (VER-SUS). This program aims to provide experiences in various settings within the Unified Health System (SUS), fostering understanding and engagement with Brazil's unique health challenges, particularly in the Amazon region. This initiative responds to a need for improved access to health in areas characterized by vast geographical features and significant social inequalities.
The immersive experience is scheduled from May 11 to May 16, 2026, at the Fluvial Basic Health Unit Abaré, known nationally for its innovative approach to fluvial health within the SUS framework. Participants will engage in a series of intensive activities aimed at addressing the historical and current challenges faced by communities in the Amazon. The program emphasizes the importance of understanding socio-cultural diversity and the obstacles related to health access in these often-remote territories.
Individuals interested in participating can apply in two categories: 'Viventes' (participants) and 'Facilitadores' (facilitators). This call for applications reflects the Brazilian government's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality in diverse settings, particularly in the Amazon, where healthcare services face unique challenges. Such initiatives not only aim to educate participants but also to foster a more equitable healthcare system for underserved populations in Brazil.
