Reunion after more than 40 years: daughter decided to search for her mother to learn more about her origins
After 41 years, Ludimila Gomes Duarte sought to reunite with her biological mother Maria Luiza Gomes Soares to understand her origins and family history.
Ludimila Gomes Duarte, at the age of 41, made an emotional decision to search for her biological mother, Maria Luiza Gomes Soares, whom she had never known. Growing up in a different family without her biological mother, Ludimila expressed a deep desire to learn about her mother's life and her personal origins, stating, 'I wanted to know her story and understand my own origin.' Her journey was encouraged by her boyfriend, leading her to the National Bank of Genetic Profiles (BNPG), operated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety, as a part of her quest to locate her mother. The reunion took place on February 9 at the police precinct of the Group of Missing Persons Investigation (GID), marking a significant moment over 40 years after Ludimila had been taken in by another family shortly after birth. When located, Maria Luiza was found to have five other children. This event not only reunited mother and daughter after decades but also shed light on the complexities of family dynamics when a child is raised apart from their biological parents. The emotional responses from both parties reflect the varied experiences of families in similar situations, highlighting the importance of understanding one's roots and the impact such reunions can have on personal identity. This story serves as an important reminder of the often challenging journeys individuals face in seeking their origins and the profound implications reunions like Ludimila's can have on their sense of self and belonging.
