Reunion after more than 40 years: mother says she gave her daughter up as a baby due to financial problems
After over 40 years apart, Maria Luiza Gomes Soares reunited with her daughter, Ludimila Gomes Duarte, whom she had to give up as a baby due to financial difficulties.
Maria Luiza Gomes Soares, now 68 years old, shared her heart-wrenching story of giving up her newborn daughter, Ludimila Gomes Duarte, due to severe financial struggles. After more than four decades, Ludimila, now 41, made the courageous decision to seek out her mother, driven by a desire to understand her origins. The emotional reunion took place at the Police Civil’s Group of Missing Persons Investigation (GID) in Goiânia, marking a significant moment for both women after a lifetime of separation despite living in the same city.
Maria Luiza recounted the circumstances that led to her decision, emphasizing her youth and lack of support at the time. She expressed her regrets about not being able to provide for her daughter, highlighting the emotional toll of giving up her child. After placing Ludimila with a couple, Maria Luiza moved to Mato Grosso, where she worked in mining for approximately 12 years before returning to Goiás and losing contact with her family.
Ludimila's journey to find her mother began with encouragement from her boyfriend, who suggested she utilize the National Bank of Genetic Profiles (BNPG) to trace her origins. This decision underscores the importance of genetic testing in reconnecting families, particularly those separated under difficult circumstances. Their reunion not only brings closure to their past but also symbolizes hope for others in similar situations, illustrating the lasting impact of parental separation and the resilience of familial bonds.
