Last week, S. Skvernelis and Conservative Party member K. Starkevičius were granted special witness status in an ongoing corruption investigation involving the State Plant Protection Service. This status allows individuals to be questioned due to law enforcement's interest in their actions without sufficient evidence to bring charges, especially considering the legal immunity surrounding members of parliament.

Upon his arrival for questioning, Skvernelis expressed confidence in the legal process, stating that everything seemed to be proceeding as it should in a legal state. He reassured journalists that the interrogation would proceed as planned, implying his willingness to cooperate with investigations. He indicated that he would provide comments after the questioning concludes, emphasizing the transparency he aims to uphold.

The investigations, which involved searches at both Skvernelis's office and Starkevičius's residence, have raised significant attention in Lithuania.
