STT will question Saulius Skvernelis on Tuesday

This marks the first questioning of Saulius Skvernelis by the Special Investigation Service (STT) concerning ongoing corruption investigations.

Saulius Skvernelis is scheduled to be questioned by the Special Investigation Service (STT) on Tuesday, marking the first time he has faced questioning in this corruption probe. As a special witness, he is called in as part of the investigation regarding his own actions without sufficient evidence to charge him or due to his legal immunity as a member of Parliament. In Lithuania, lawmakers can only face criminal charges with the permission of the Parliament, making this a noteworthy event in local governance dynamics.

Previously, Kazys Starkevičius, a member of the Conservative party, was also summoned to the STT and faced searches at his home and parliamentary office, where it was reported that he spent about half an hour being questioned but allegedly refused to testify. Additionally, Agnė Silickienė, a former advisor to Skvernelis, was also questioned last Wednesday as part of the same investigation, bringing the total number of individuals under scrutiny to 14.

The STT is investigating a significant corruption case, which recently involved searches at the Parliament. The Speaker of Parliament, Juozas Olekas, confirmed that the STT officers conducted these processes related to the Democratic Party "Vardan Lietuvai," indicating that this high-profile investigation has broad implications and could lead to significant political consequences for those involved, including high-ranking officials in Lithuania’s political landscape.
