Call for nominations for the title of 'Historian of the Year 2025'
A campaign has been launched to nominate candidates for the title of 'Historian of the Year 2025', aimed at promoting history and recognizing the contributions of Latvian historians.
The nomination process for the title 'Historian of the Year' serves to popularize history and bring attention to the contributions made by Latvian historians over the past year. The public is invited to participate for the fifteenth time by submitting nominations and sharing their perspectives on the most significant events in history research and promotion in Latvia from the prior year. This initiative is organized by a public opinion association, underscoring the importance of citizen engagement in celebrating historical scholarship.
Participation in the survey is open to everyone, allowing individuals to submit the name and surname of their chosen candidate along with a justification for their selection through an online platform. The final decision regarding the award will be made by the association's general assembly, which will consider the results of the public survey. It is noteworthy that association board members are excluded from being nominated for the title, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.
Historically, the title of 'Historian of the Year' has been awarded to twelve distinguished scientists, researchers, and educators in the past. In 2024, the title was awarded to a history teacher from Rīgas Valsts 1. ģimnāzija and Rīgas Mākslas un mediju tehnikums, who is also the chair of the Association of History and Social Technology Teachers and runs the website Latvijaspieminekli.lv, reflecting the ongoing effort to acknowledge and promote the significance of history education and research in Latvia.
