Famous Arias by Ema Destinnová Will Be Performed at Rudolfinum. There Will Also Be Readings from a New Book About the Singer

A concert celebrating the legacy of Ema Destinnová will feature famous arias performed by a new generation of opera singers, along with the launch of a trilogy about the renowned soprano.

A special concert titled 'Zrození hvězdy: Koncertní pocta Emě Destinnové' will take place at Rudolfinum, celebrating the legacy of the celebrated soprano Ema Destinnová. The event will showcase famous arias from operas, performed by rising talents in the opera scene, accompanied by the PKF – Prague Philharmonia. This concert aims to highlight the prominent years of Destinnová's career, particularly her breakthrough role in 'Sedlák kavalír' by Pietro Mascagni, which she performed at the Berlin Opera at the age of twenty.

In addition to arias from Mascagni's opera, the program will feature works by notable composers including Mozart, Massenet, Gluck, and Smetana, which were integral to Destinnová's repertoire as a world-renowned opera diva. The concert will be directed by conductor František Macek, and notable soloists will include sopranos Eliška Weissová, Zuzana Marková, and Vanda Šípová, as well as countertenor Vojtěch Pelka. The performance not only aims to celebrate the illustrious career of Destinnová but also to introduce and connect the new generation of Czech opera singers to her legacy.

Apart from the musical performances, the evening will also mark the launch of the first volume of a new trilogy about Ema Destinnová, thus enriching the cultural appreciation of her contributions to opera.
