Military Academies: Increased interest in the Evelpidon - The participation rates in the preliminary examinations
There is a notable increase in participation rates for Greece's Evelpidon Military Academy in the preliminary examinations for the academic year 2026.
Following a significant rise in interest for the Evelpidon Military Academy (ΣΣΕ) due to the results of the 2025 Panhellenic Examinations, the enthusiasm has continued for the 2026 academic year. This trend suggests that the measures implemented by Greece's Minister Dendias have effectively attracted new candidates, evidenced by growing participation rates in the preliminary tests.
Specifically, for the 2026 preliminary examinations, which include athletic, psychological, and medical assessments, there has been a 19% increase in applicants for the Army branch compared to 2025. For the corresponding year, the total number of participants for the Army is reported at 5,408, up from 4,532 in 2025. Similarly, interest in the Corps has soared by 36%, with participation rising to 4,600 from 3,394 last year.
These increasing numbers highlight not only the popularity of military education in Greece but also signify a response to the governmental strategies aimed at enhancing recruitment. As the demand for positions within the military academies climbs, it reflects broader societal values of honor and service, suggesting a revitalized interest in contributing to national security and military service among the youth.
