Best Children's and Young Adult Books of 2025 Announced by the Children's Literature Center

The Estonian Children's Literature Center has announced the best children's and young adult books published in 2025, selecting 29 works from over 700 entries.

The Estonian Children's Literature Center (ELK), in collaboration with the Estonian Child Protection Union, has revealed the best children's and young adult literature for 2025. From more than 700 books published last year, the jury selected 18 titles for children and 11 for teenagers, highlighting the quality and diversity of literature targeted at younger audiences in Estonia. This selection showcases the insights of experts who engage with children's and youth literature on a daily basis, including members from various literary and educational organizations.

Helena Kostenok, a jury member and head of the information department at the ELK, emphasized that the selected works reflect a world where making choices is often challenging yet critically important. These books feature protagonists who assert their rights and values rather than passively waiting for solutions, encouraging readers to engage actively with their realities. This year's selections aim to challenge readers with complex themes and narratives rather than providing easy answers, catering to a generation that is learning to navigate a world filled with nuanced dilemmas.

Through these awards, the Children's Literature Center aims to promote exceptional literature that not only entertains but also fosters critical thinking and personal growth among young readers. The recognition of these titles also serves to motivate authors and illustrators in Estonia, enhancing the cultural landscape and ensuring that future generations have access to engaging and thought-provoking literature.
