In a recent statement, Lithuanian Minister Robertas Kaunas reported that a law project related to the establishment of a military polygon in Kapčiamiesčiai has been completed and is on track for government review. Despite delays due to the recent holiday on March 11, all necessary procedures are moving forward without any significant disruptions. The government is eager to advance the proposal at the next cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

The establishment of the polygon was initiated following a decision made by the State Defense Council back in December of last year. The location in the Lazdijai region has been strategically selected by the Ministry of National Defense, citing its proximity to the so-called Suwalki Corridor. This area is seen as crucial for bolstering Lithuania's defense capabilities, particularly in light of regional security concerns.

Once operational, the new polygon will have the capacity to host training exercises for approximately 3,500 to 4,000 soldiers simultaneously. Larger training activities are planned to occur five times a year, lasting up to ten days each, while smaller-scale exercises will be conducted on a continuous basis. This development is expected to significantly enhance the readiness and strength of Lithuania's armed forces.
