The Finnish Digital and Population Data Agency warns citizens about ongoing scam messages related to the Suomi.fi service, urging caution against deceptive communications.
The Digital and Population Data Agency (DVV) of Finland has issued a warning about a wave of phishing messages circulating that concern the Suomi.fi service. These scam messages often purport to contain important information or requests to update personal details within the service. It's been noted that such fraudulent messages have been in circulation for several years, highlighting a persistent threat to Finnish citizens' data security.
The content of these scam messages can vary but can typically be identified by the presence of a link within the message, which leads recipients to phishing sites. The DVV emphasizes that neither Suomi.fi nor any Finnish authorities will ever send messages containing login links. This tactic is commonly used by scammers who pose as credible organizations, including the Tax Administration, Traficom, banks, and other official entities, to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information.
In addition to phishing scams, there are reports of extortion messages where the scammer, impersonating police or Traficom officials, threatens legal consequences if the recipient does not respond appropriately to the message. This emphasizes the need for vigilance among citizens to avoid falling victim to these schemes, and to always verify the legitimacy of any communication received, particularly when sensitive information is requested.
