Olympic vice-champion Bota returns to Latvia
Elīna Ieva Bota, a silver medalist in luge from the Milan and Cortina Winter Olympics, is set to return to Latvia along with other members of the Latvian delegation.
Elīna Ieva Bota, who recently earned a silver medal in luge at the Milan and Cortina Winter Olympics, will return to her home country of Latvia on Tuesday alongside fellow athletes from the luge sports delegation. They are expected to arrive at Riga Airport after 6 PM and will be escorted by a special convoy from the State Police to Sigulda's railway station.
At approximately 8 PM, there will be an official welcoming ceremony at the Sigulda railway station square, where Bota will be particularly honored in her hometown. She made history by winning Latvia's first medal in these Olympic Games and her silver medal also marks the first time a Latvian woman has medaled in the Olympic Games' individual luge competitions, achieving this significant milestone in the independent history of Latvia.
The Latvian Olympic Committee is encouraging supporters to greet the returning Olympians on their way to Sigulda by waving, shouting words of encouragement, or otherwise showing their support. This return is not only a celebration of Bota's achievements but also showcases the growing pride in Latvia's presence in winter sports on the international stage.
