Members of the STF are notified of data confidentiality breaches involving relatives of ministers

STF ministers were alerted that the Federal Revenue identified breaches of confidentiality concerning relatives of court judges.

Ministers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) in Brazil have been notified that the Federal Revenue Service has identified breaches of data confidentiality related to relatives of court judges. A government member confirmed to Folha that data leaks have been substantiated. According to an STF minister, breaches appear to connect to the spouses and ex-spouses of the judges. However, there is currently no information regarding who is responsible for these breaches or when they occurred.

As reported by Folha, the Federal Revenue is tracking data concerning around 100 individuals at the direction of STF minister Alexandre de Moraes. Reportedly, the confidentiality breaches include the wife of Moraes, Viviane Barci, and the son of another minister. The list of individuals whose confidentiality is being investigated was compiled based on a request from a minister and includes parents, children, siblings, and spouses of the ten STF ministers.

To resolve the situation fully, Federal Revenue auditors will conduct approximately 8,000 procedures. This investigation highlights significant concerns regarding the integrity of data protection in Brazil's highest court and raises questions about the potential misuse of personal data of judicial officials and their families.
