Sent home from the emergency room without a doctor's assessment - died
A patient with a serious illness was sent home from an emergency room without being examined by a doctor, leading to their death.
A patient suffering from a known vascular disease, who was scheduled for surgery, sought emergency care after experiencing symptoms that were mistakenly believed to be a harmless muscle strain. Despite the patient's serious condition, they were sent home by a nurse who, after consulting with the responsible surgeon, concluded that the situation was not urgent and provided pain relief. Unfortunately, shortly after being discharged, the patient died due to a severe worsening of their illness, highlighting grave concerns about the decision-making process in emergency care. In the aftermath, Region Kronoberg has reported itself to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) under the Lex Maria rule, which mandates that serious health incidents must be reported for review to improve patient safety.
