Nigeria seeks World Relays ticket at MTN CHAMPS
Nigeria's Athletics Federation plans to use upcoming MTN CHAMPS events in Calabar and Jos to qualify for the World Relays in Botswana.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is gearing up to secure a spot for the World Relays scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana, from May 2-3. To achieve this, the federation has incorporated critical events into the MTN CHAMPS Season 4, particularly focusing on the Calabar and Jos legs, which are set for early March. These events are essential as they fall within the qualification time frame, which extends until April 5, 2026.
The MTN CHAMPS Season 4 will kick off in Calabar on March 5-7, followed by the Continental Relays in Jos from March 26-28, and culminate with the grand finale in Ibadan from April 15-18. Organizers, Making of Champions (MoC), have emphasized the importance of these meets for Nigeria's preparation and qualification for the World Relays. With these events taking place soon, they represent a significant opportunity for Nigerian athletes to showcase their skills and secure their positions for international competition.
AFN President Tonobok Okowa has stated that the collective efforts during these championships will determine Nigeria's success in qualifying for the world stage. The strategic planning indicates a robust focus on enhancing Nigeria's presence in global athletics, aiming for success at the upcoming World Relays and fostering talent through national competitions.
