Tourist's body found in the Iguape River; victim was swept away by the current

The body of a 41-year-old tourist was discovered in the Iguape River after he was swept away while swimming with family.

The tragic event unfolded in Iguape, a coastal region in São Paulo, where a 41-year-old tourist from Votorantim went missing after entering the Iguape River. Accompanied by his family and a friend, he decided to swim, only to be caught and carried away by the river's strong currents. The incident occurred around 10:40 AM on Sunday, and efforts to locate him began shortly thereafter.

Local authorities, specifically the 6th Fire Brigade Group, initiated a search operation on the same day. The team utilized a boat and included four firefighters in their search. Despite their efforts, they were unable to find the victim on Sunday. The search continued into Monday morning when, around 4:10 PM, his body was finally located approximately two kilometers downstream from where witnesses indicated he had gone missing.

After the body was recovered, the firefighters handed it over to local law enforcement for further procedures. This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers associated with swimming in natural bodies of water, particularly during periods of strong currents, and serves as a reminder of the need for caution while engaging in such activities at riverine locations.
