VIDEO: Asphalt sinks and two trucks fall into a hole in Guarapari
Two trucks fell into sinkholes after the asphalt collapsed in Guarapari, Brazil, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On Monday afternoon, two trucks fell into sinkholes that formed when the asphalt collapsed on Presidente Tancredo Neves Street in the Condados neighborhood of Guarapari, located in the Greater Vitória area of Brazil. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the incident. According to the Guarapari City Hall, the cause of the asphalt sinking was linked to problems with the sanitation network managed by Companhia Espírito-santense de Saneamento (Cesan) located beneath the roadway.
City officials indicated that issues with sealing and soil compaction led to the uneven surface of the road, which compromised vehicle circulation and presented a hazard to motorists. At the time of the collapse, one garbage truck was already stuck in the area and another city vehicle fell in as the asphalt gave way. Eyewitness accounts from drivers highlighted the suddenness with which the asphalt crumbled under their vehicles.
This incident raises concerns regarding infrastructure maintenance and safety measures in urban areas. Local authorities will likely investigate the sanitation network issues further to prevent such occurrences in the future. The event underscores the vital importance of regular inspections and maintenance of public roads to ensure the safety of all road users in Guarapari and similar municipalities.
