Garbage collector attacked by pit bull dog at Ver-o-Peso in Belém
A garbage collector was attacked by a pit bull in Belém, Brazil, causing widespread concern as the incident was captured on video.
On the morning of Monday, October 16, a garbage collector was attacked by a pit bull dog at Ver-o-Peso, a well-known marketplace in Belém, Brazil. The incident drew public attention when bystanders recorded the attack, showing the injured worker sitting on the ground waiting for medical assistance. The footage circulated widely on social media, sparking discussions about dog safety regulations and public safety in general.
The dog's owner was present during the attack and had the dog on a leash, although it was not wearing a muzzle, which is required for breeds classified as dangerous. Following the incident, the Military Police were called to the scene and took the dog's owner to the local police station in São Brás, where a Circumstantial Occurrence Report was filed against her for failing to properly manage a dangerous animal. The investigation into the incident will continue with the Police Civil.
The company responsible for urban cleaning, Ciclus Amazônia, confirmed that they were aware of the attack and provided assistance to the victim. They noted that the garbage collector is in stable condition and does not face life-threatening injuries. This incident raises important questions about pet ownership responsibilities and the enforcement of safety regulations for potentially dangerous animals in public spaces.
