70-Year-Old Worker Attacked by Pit Bull While Reading Energy Meter and Hospitalized in SC

A 70-year-old worker was hospitalized after being attacked by a pit bull while reading an energy meter in Joinville, Brazil.

On Friday, a 70-year-old worker named Sebastião Carlini was attacked by a pit bull while performing an energy meter reading at a residence in Joinville, located in the northern region of Santa Catarina. The incident occurred in the morning at Boehmerwald neighborhood, where the worker, employed by a subcontractor of the Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina (Celesc), suffered various injuries to his arms and legs as a result of the dog attack. Following the incident, he was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.

According to witnesses, the pit bull jumped over a wall and attacked Carlini as he was retrieving the energy bill from the property. The circumstances surrounding the attack indicate that the dog may not have been properly contained, resulting in the elderly worker sustaining injuries. Celesc, the energy company for which Carlini was working, issued a statement saying they are monitoring the situation and providing necessary support through the responsible subcontractor.

As of now, Carlini's family has not received comprehensive information regarding his condition after the assault, but they are concerned about his well-being and the implications of the attack. This incident raises serious questions about pet ownership responsibilities and the safety measures surrounding aggressive dog breeds, especially in residential neighborhoods, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations and awareness to prevent future occurrences like this one.
