4.8 Hectares of Marijuana Plantations Destroyed in Michoacán
Mexican authorities destroyed 4.8 hectares of marijuana plantations in Turicato, Michoacán, as part of a security operation.
In an effort that falls under the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, elements of the Mexican Defense Secretary located and destroyed 4.8 hectares of illegal marijuana plantations in Turicato, Michoacán. According to information from the 21st Military Zone based in Morelia, the significant discovery occurred in the community of La Laja, where two plantations measuring approximately 2.8 and 2 hectares were found.
The discovery was made during a security operation that included ground and aerial surveillance throughout the Tierra Caliente region, with the support of the Mexican Air Force. The marijuana plants at the site reached up to two meters in height and were equipped with a drip irrigation system along with areas designated for drying the harvested marijuana. The Mexican authorities conducted the operation to eliminate the plantations, subsequently incinerating them on-site.
This operation highlights the continued efforts by the Mexican government to combat illegal drug cultivation and trafficking, particularly in regions known for drug-related issues. The destruction of these plantations not only represents a step towards reducing marijuana production but also underscores the government's commitment to maintaining peace and security in Michoacán, a state that has faced significant violence and instability due to cartel activities.
