Toilet Radar to Protect Against Constipation
A new Swedish-developed toilet seat equipped with hidden radar and AI will monitor how often individuals use the toilet, and it is set to be tested in healthcare for the first time.
A newly developed toilet seat in Sweden, known as Zen Seat, utilizes hidden radar technology and artificial intelligence to track toilet usage and bowel movements. This innovation is particularly aimed at aiding elderly individuals or those with dementia, who may find it difficult to communicate their bathroom needs. The first trials of the device will soon take place in healthcare settings, following its development in collaboration with medical professionals.
The creator of this technology, Peter RybΓ€ck, who is both a co-founder and CEO of Optisense Care, emphasizes the critical role that such monitoring can play in medical care. He pointed out that missed bowel movements could lead to severe health issues, including unnecessary suffering and even premature death. Thus, having accurate information about patients' toilet habits is crucial, especially in vulnerable populations.
The concept for this smart toilet seat originated four years ago and was shaped through interactions with healthcare providers. The innovation reflects a growing trend in the integration of technology into everyday health management, showcasing how advancements can be tailored to accompany and support aging populations, ensuring better health outcomes and potentially reducing hospital visits for preventative care.
