Suzano announces new garbage collection schedule

The city of Suzano has revealed a new garbage collection schedule following a recent strike by workers due to unpaid wages.

The city government of Suzano, Brazil, released a new garbage collection schedule on Sunday, October 15, which will be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as well as Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, during both day and night shifts. The administration highlighted that some areas will receive daily collections, and the central region will also be serviced on Sundays to address the local waste management challenges.

This overhaul of the garbage collection service comes in light of labor disruptions caused by a strike from employees of the previous waste management company, Renova, who halted operations due to the company's failure to pay salaries and vacation entitlements. In response to these issues, the city has contracted a new emergency provider, Troupe, which commenced operations on Tuesday, October 10, aimed at restoring regular waste collection services to prevent garbage accumulation in public spaces.

The local government underscores the importance of public cooperation in this new schedule, advising residents on the appropriate times to place their garbage bags outside. The shift to a new contractor reflects efforts to improve the consistency and efficiency of waste management in Suzano, addressing both public health and cleanliness concerns in the community, especially as the city copes with the aftermath of industrial action affecting the previous service provider.
