Vuletić (HSS) criticized Dabro: 'Ustaše go... into exile!'; Plenković also reacted

Croatian political scene is shaken by a video of former minister Josip Dabro, prompting condemnation from PM Plenković and sharp criticism from HSS leader Vuletić.

The political landscape in Croatia has been stirred by a controversial video featuring Josip Dabro, a former minister and member of the Domovinski pokret (Homeland Movement). Following the release of the video, where Dabro was seen singing a song implying support for the Ustaša regime, the State Attorney's Office (DORH) announced an investigation into his actions. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković condemned Dabro's behavior, labeling the song as inappropriate; however, he reassured that this incident does not threaten the stability of the ruling coalition.

In addition to Plenković’s remarks, Darko Vuletić, the leader of HSS, sharply criticized Dabro's singing during his public statement. Vuletić’s response, which included the controversial remark directed at both Partisans and Ustaše, reignited discussions around Croatia's fraught historical narratives. His comments indicate a prevailing tendency within the opposition to adopt similar language and rhetoric as that of Dabro, raising concerns over political discourse in Croatia.

This incident not only reflects the tensions within Croatian politics but also highlights the historical scars associated with the narratives surrounding the Ustaša regime from World War II. The divisive nature of such comments can foster further polarization within the country, as leaders navigate this historical baggage while attempting to address current political instability. The reaction from Plenković and other political figures may also signal a broader movement within the government to distance itself from such extremist sentiments, emphasizing the need for a more measured approach to national history in political discussions.
