The Comptroller's Office orders a special and IT audit for the ANT

The Comptroller General's Office of Ecuador has ordered a special audit and an IT audit for the National Transit Agency (ANT) amid controversies surrounding the issuance of licenses and habilitating titles.

The Comptroller General's Office (CGE) of Ecuador has directed its National Auditor's Office to conduct a detailed analysis regarding the National Transit Agency (ANT), focusing on the processes related to issuing habilitating titles and internal management and control. This decision comes in response to a request from the ANT itself, which has been embroiled in controversy following the arrest of its director and several others due to alleged irregularities in the issuance of licenses and habilitating titles.

The CGE has also authorized the National Forensic and IT Audit Directorate to carry out a specific IT audit directed at the security measures and vulnerabilities of the ANT's AXIS system. This reflects a proactive approach by the government oversight agency in addressing potential flaws within the agency's systems amidst ongoing investigations related to misconduct. These audits are expected to reveal critical insights into the operational integrity of the ANT.

The audits will be financed from unanticipated expenses within the Annual Control Plan for 2026, indicating the seriousness with which the CGE and the Ecuadorian government are treating these issues. As the ANT navigates through these controversies, these audits could significantly impact future governance and operational transparency within the agency, aiming to restore public trust in public transportation regulations and their enforcement.
