Four suspects arrested for the homicide of a state police officer in Quintana Roo
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the homicide of a state police officer in Quintana Roo following an armed attack.
Four suspects, including Jorge Luis 'N' alias El Mantis, another man, and two female adolescents, have been arrested in relation to the murder of Alejandro 'N', a state police officer, after a violent incident that occurred in the early hours of February 15 along the San Ramón–Tepich highway. This information was confirmed by Julio César Gómez Torres, the Secretary of Citizen Security. The authorities indicated that these arrests resulted from coordinated efforts with the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office as part of an Inter-Institutional Group.
The arrests took place during an operation conducted on the Chunpon–Tepich highway in Tepich, a locality within the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. During the intervention, law enforcement officials seized three long weapons of the R15 type caliber 5.56 mm, which are classified as exclusive for use by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This suggests that the suspects may have had significant access to military-grade weapons, raising concerns over the level of violence and illicit arms in the region.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, examining how the arrested individuals may have participated in the armed attack that led to the police officer's death. The case underscores broader issues relating to the violence faced by police forces in Mexico, particularly in states like Quintana Roo, where criminal organizations often target law enforcement for retribution. The involvement of minors in such violent incidents also highlights significant societal challenges that the region faces regarding youth and crime.
