Brazilian police have arrested three suspects believed to be part of a criminal group responsible for the murder of a retired federal highway police officer.

In a significant development in the investigation of a recent murder, Brazilian police have arrested three individuals in Monte Alegre, Grande Natal, suspected of being part of a criminal group that killed 68-year-old retired federal highway police officer Antônio Fernandes Ferreira. The incident unfolded earlier in February when Ferreira was shot during a confrontation with armed assailants who invaded his home in São José de Mipibu. The police confirmed that one of the attackers was also killed in the shootout.

The police operation, which took place on Friday the 13th, resulted in the apprehension of three suspects from a total of six men believed to be involved in the violent crime. Initial arrests were made soon after the incident, leading to the detention of at least two suspects. Following this recent operation, authorities executed four search and seizure warrants as part of the ongoing investigation. The civil police have indicated that some of those detained may also be linked to other serious crimes, including the armed robbery and murder of the retired police officer.

This case highlights the persistent issues of violence and crime in the region, particularly against law enforcement personnel. The attack on Ferreira has shed light on the risks faced by retired police officers and the broader implications of organized crime in Brazil. As the investigation unfolds, the police are expected to intensify their efforts to dismantle these criminal networks and restore security in local communities.
