KHNP signs a contract for the supply of a turbine to Dukovany for five billion koruna
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has signed a significant contract for the supply of a turbine to the new nuclear block construction in Dukovany, Czechia, valued at approximately five billion koruna.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has solidified its commitment to the Czech nuclear project by signing a contract for the supply of a turbine essential for the new nuclear reactors being constructed in Dukovany. This contract, valued at around five billion koruna, was announced alongside other advancements in the project by Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček and South Korean Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Čung-Kwan. The collaboration marks a pivotal development in the efforts to enhance nuclear energy production in the Czech Republic.
Daniel Procházka, the director of Doosan Škoda Power, emphasized the importance of the turbine’s timely delivery, as it has the longest lead time among the necessary components for the new nuclear blocks. The urgency of signing the contract facilitates the commencement of ordering essential control parts and materials needed for the project’s progression. Procházka noted that subsequent phases of the project will involve not just the turbine supply but also installation and commissioning processes, indicating a substantial ongoing investment as the project unfolds over time.
The new reactor blocks in Dukovany are expected to significantly boost the national energy supply, addressing both future energy demands and goals for sustainable energy production in Czechia. With completion anticipated in the early 2030s, the project represents a notable investment in the country’s energy infrastructure, highlighting the growing partnership between Czechia and South Korea in the nuclear energy sector, and potentially influencing future energy policy in the region.
