Gallery: Kaido Ole opened the exhibition 'Selling a house in Rapla'
Kaido Ole has opened a reflective art exhibition in Rapla titled 'Selling a house in Rapla', which serves as a personal farewell to his childhood home.
The exhibition 'Selling a house in Rapla' by Kaido Ole marks a deeply personal moment for the artist as he bids farewell to his childhood home in Rapla. This showcasing at the Riinimanda Gallery not only celebrates Ole's artistic journey but also emphasizes the emotional connection he has with the place of his upbringing. During the opening, Ole explained the title's significance, revealing that his actual family home is for sale, which prompted the theme behind the exhibition.
In addition to Ole's artwork, the exhibition opening featured the launch of a new book by Margus Mikomägi, a theatre critic from Raplamaa, titled 'Koguja kuld'. The design for Mikomägi’s book was also done by Ole, establishing a collaborative essence within the local cultural community. The relationship between art and literature is a central theme, with Mikomägi recalling the late 1990s when he first suggested to Ole that he should exhibit in Rapla, an idea which at the time was turned down by the artist.
The event not only highlights Ole's return to his roots but also reflects a broader narrative on the importance of local culture and community engagement in the arts. By finally bringing his art back to Rapla after many years, Ole seeks to reconcile his past with the present while celebrating both individual and collective memories, thus reinforcing the role of artists in the cultural landscape.
