Plans for Lost Place: Amusement Park to Be Built Next to Messel Pit

Businessman James Jungeli plans to establish a nature-themed amusement park near the Messel Pit, having already prepared the site but still awaiting necessary approvals.

Entrepreneur James Jungeli is set to transform the site of a former luxury brothel in Messel into a nature-themed amusement park. His vision for the park, named "Lumax," aims to provide enjoyable and carefree experiences for families, integrating attractions that appeal to both children and adults. Jungeli's plans include adventure gastronomy, tree houses, a campsite, and various recreational activities, creating a protected space for family entertainment in the heart of nature.

The planned site for the park is situated near the Grube Messel, which is located northeast of Darmstadt. While preparations for the site are already underway, the project is currently pending approval from local authorities. The area has a history dating back to the 1970s and 80s when it was home to an exclusive club hotel, making the transition to an amusement park quite significant in terms of community identity and redevelopment.

If approved, the Lumax amusement park could not only offer entertainment but also attract tourism to the region, particularly given its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Messel Pit, known for its rich fossil finds. The project reflects a growing trend in Germany to repurpose historical sites and meet the increasing demand for family-friendly recreational spaces, contributing to both local economy and community engagement.
