Two people die after motorcycle hits steel cable during removal of trio in BH
A couple died in Belo Horizonte after their motorcycle collided with a steel cable used to remove a samba float from a garage.
In Belo Horizonte, Brazil, a tragic accident occurred on the morning of October 16, where a couple riding a motorcycle lost their lives after colliding with a steel cable. The accident happened in the São Luiz neighborhood, specifically on Alameda das Latanias, which was partially closed off by the Military Police following the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that the couple, estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old, were maneuvering down the street when they struck the cable, which had been set up for the removal of a trio elétrico, a type of mobile sound system associated with samba parades.
The cable was being used by a truck to pull the trio elétrico out of the samba school's garage, preparing for a parade on Avenida dos Andradas. Unfortunately, during this maneuver, the steel cable became stretched across the road, creating an unexpected hazard for the motorcyclists. According to police reports, the inability of the couple to notice the obstacle, likely due to their high speed, resulted in the fatal impact that killed them instantly at the scene.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with forensic teams from the Civil Police on-site to determine the full circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. This incident raises critical questions about road safety and the protocols around setting up equipment for public events, emphasizing the need for better warnings and signage to prevent accidents like this in the future.
