In Latvia, 9.6% More Dairy Products Were Produced Last Year; The Most Significant Increase is in Butter
Latvia's dairy production saw a significant increase in 2024, particularly in butter, which rose by 15.7%.
In Latvia, dairy production has seen a considerable uptick of 9.6% in 2024 compared to the previous year, with all dairy products registering growth. Notably, butter production surged by 15.7%, while other products such as fermented milk, cheese, drinking milk, and cream also experienced increases of 13.8%, 12.9%, 5.2%, and 0.5%, respectively. This growth highlights a resilience in the dairy sector despite any economic fluctuations in the region.
The total amount of fresh milk purchased by dairy processing companies in 2025 reached 839,500 tons, which is 0.7% higher than in 2024. The average purchase price of fresh milk also increased substantially, reaching 477.03 euros per ton, which represents a 17.4% rise compared to 2024. This price surge is indicative of heightened demand and possibly the effect of inflation or other market pressures affecting the milk supply chain.
Comparing data year-on-year, the average purchase price in 2025 increased by about 34.4%, rising by 121.98 euros per ton compared to 2023. February 2025 saw the highest recorded average purchase price at 490.15 euros per ton, reflecting the ongoing trends in market dynamics within Latvia's dairy industry. Overall, such growth in production and prices suggests a robust dairy sector, which remains crucial for the local economy.
