Kaisariani: Kaklamanis' Statement about the Photos from the Execution – His Response to Tsipras

Nikitas Kaklamanis seeks authorization from the Conference of Presidents to acquire photos deemed wartime evidence, stressing the need to verify their authenticity first.

Nikitas Kaklamanis is set to request authorization from the Conference of Presidents on Thursday to take necessary steps towards acquiring photos related to wartime events, should they be confirmed as evidence of war. He highlighted the importance of verifying the authenticity of these images before any acquisition takes place, noting that there are international laws that prohibit the trading of wartime evidence on such platforms.

During his discussion with parliamentary reporters, Kaklamanis clarified that while acquiring these photographs isn't traditionally the responsibility of Parliament, the institution would try to obtain them due to its relative flexibility compared to the Ministry of Culture. He mentioned that the importance of preserving such historical evidence should be prioritized, although formally it falls under the ministry's jurisdiction.

Furthermore, in response to a letter from Alexis Tsipras, Kaklamanis argued that the Parliament Foundation could not acquire the photographs due to its lack of budget, unlike the Parliament itself. However, he acknowledged the suggestion from KKE's General Secretary, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, advocating for the suspension of the online auction by Parliament, demonstrating some consensus on the need for careful handling of such sensitive materials.
