Gasoline Mixed with Purchased Kerosene; Fire Breaks Out from Heater, House Burned Down in Gifu
A house was completely burned down in Gifu, Japan, after gasoline was discovered mixed with the kerosene used in an oil fan heater.
On the 9th of this month, a wooden two-story house in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, was completely engulfed in flames, which may have originated from an oil fan heater where gasoline was mixed with the kerosene. Residents had purchased the kerosene from a local gas station, and the fire department has warned people not to use this kerosene due to the potential danger after learning of the gasoline contamination. The gas station in question, "Kygnus Oil Seino" in Kumano Town, Ogaki, sold this contaminated kerosene between January 29 and February 13 and has since suspended operations from 3:30 PM on the 15th.
The house fire occurred in Akasaka Town, Ogaki City, with no reported injuries. According to the local police, the resident indicated that the fan heater ignited after they refueled it. Fire department investigations revealed signs of gasoline present in the remaining kerosene in the heater. Both police and fire officials are probing the cause of the fire and how the gasoline contamination happened.
A 66-year-old woman identified as a victim of the incident spoke to reporters, stating that when she used the kerosene in her heater, her family commented on the strange, gasoline-like odor. There have been past instances where the fire department issued warnings via helicopter regarding the cessation of use of the contaminated kerosene, underscoring the seriousness this contamination poses to public safety.
