On February 14, a serious incident occurred in Hanko when a car sank through the ice at the East Harbor, endangering four individuals. The group, consisting of four people, was driving a van on the ice when it unexpectedly gave way beneath them. While three individuals managed to escape immediately, the fourth was rescued shortly after, victim to the sinking vehicle was a dog that unfortunately perished in the crash.

The West Uusimaa Police are currently investigating the incident, focusing on whether the driver of the van acted in a manner that caused danger to others, either through intent or gross negligence.
