Type A Hepatitis is on the Rise in Prague, Warn Hygienists
Prague hygienists report an increase in Type A Hepatitis cases, emphasizing that while recent numbers have risen, it is too early to confirm a trend.
The Prague hygiene station reported 21 new cases of Type A Hepatitis in the city over the past week, indicating a mild increase in infections. However, officials caution that it is too early to determine if this uptick indicates a broader trend, as the total number of infections this year has reached 119 individuals, including 19 children. Health authorities communicated this information via social media platform X, emphasizing their ongoing monitoring of the situation.
In comparison to previous years, the number of reported Type A Hepatitis cases in Prague has fluctuated significantly. Last year, there were 1,377 reported cases, while only 37 cases have been identified so far in 2024. Health officials note that the current situation appears to be stabilized, with the hygiene station having issued numerous decisions related to the epidemic since the beginning of the year. They also reported that 500 residents have received post-exposure vaccinations in response to the outbreak.
Martina Marešová, the director of the anti-epidemic department, indicated that the situation has improved and cases are decreasing, suggesting that conditions may return to normal during the summer months. Health officials had previously categorized the outbreak of Type A Hepatitis in Prague as a local issue last autumn, highlighting the importance of informed vigilance in public health management.
