In the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a wild elephant has become a source of terror, leading to the death of a 100-year-old priest, Suresh Das. The incident took place late at night when the elderly priest, who had lived in a thatched hut near the forest for the past 15 years, was attacked by the elephant while he was having dinner with a companion. Shortly after his friend left to wash dishes at a nearby tap, the elephant entered the hut and began causing destruction. Despite attempts to scare the animal away, the priest was trampled to death on the spot.

Local authorities were alerted immediately by the village head, Shyamlal, who notified the forest department and police about the tragic incident. Officers from the Sujoli police station and forest personnel arrived at the scene to manage the situation. This incident is particularly alarming as it indicates an increasing conflict between local human populations and wildlife, raising concerns about the safety of residents living close to forested areas. With this being the second death within a mere 12 hours, there is an urgent need for effective measures to address both the threat posed by wild elephants and the safety of the local community.
