Netherlands short track national team coach Silovs: Bērziņš has good chances to fight for the final in the 500-meter distance
Silovs expresses pride in his students' accomplishments and highlights the potential for future success in short track skating in Latvia.
Silovs had a significant day as his student Jens van't Vouts became an Olympic champion, creating a celebratory atmosphere in the hall. He was equally thrilled for his teammate Krūzbergs who also secured a spot among the laureates. The unexpected victory brought chaos and joy, with Silovs unable to contain his excitement as he celebrated both achievements.
Representing Latvia, Silovs noted that he had previously achieved a notable record in the 1500-meter distance at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, where he finished in fourth place. The pride he felt when Robert was awarded his medal, viewing the Latvian flag being raised, was a poignant moment that he believes will inspire the younger generation to take up short track skating and foster its development in the country.
He emphasizes that despite Latvia being a small country with few skaters, their achievements in short track are remarkable. Silovs believes this may serve as a testament to the potential of athletes from smaller nations, encouraging future participation and growth in ice sports within Latvia.
