Even minus 20 degrees Celsius. We are facing a winter start to the week
Poland is expected to experience extremely low temperatures at the start of the week, particularly in the northeast where it could drop to below -20°C.
At the beginning of the week, Poland is bracing for exceptionally low temperatures, especially in the northeastern regions where thermometers may register below -20 degrees Celsius during the night. This forecast comes from the latest report by the IMGW (Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management) regarding current and projected meteorological and hydrological conditions. Additionally, in the southern and western parts of Poland, freezing rain is expected, leading to hazardous icy conditions.
The previous night and the Monday morning were notably the coldest times, especially in the northeast where Kwidzyn recorded a chilling -19.2 degrees Celsius at 8 AM. In contrast, Wrocław, located further southwest, was relatively warmer with temperatures around -4.9 degrees Celsius. However, the perceived temperature felt significantly lower, with sensors indicating -27 degrees Celsius in Kwidzyn and -9 degrees Celsius in Wrocław due to wind chill factors.
This harsh winter onset reflects the ongoing challenges posed by low temperatures and accompanying freezing rain, which may lead to difficult travel conditions and increased safety risks. As the situation unfolds, residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme cold and stay updated with weather reports from IMGW to ensure safety during this winter episode.
