Police create Instagram profile with photos to help search for missing people in ES

The Civil Police of Brazil has launched an Instagram profile to assist in the search for missing individuals by sharing images and details of their disappearances in the state of Espírito Santo.

The Civil Police in Espírito Santo has established an Instagram account dedicated to aiding in the search for missing persons in the Greater Vitória area. This initiative, led by the Specialized Police Station for Missing Persons (DEPD), aims to leverage social media's reach to disseminate essential information regarding individuals who have lost contact with their families. The public is encouraged to share the posts and provide any leads that could support the search efforts.

The Instagram profile, named @depd_pces, features images of missing persons along with details about when and where they were last seen. Importantly, all shared content is authorized by the victims' relatives, ensuring that privacy and consent are respected throughout the process. By creating this platform, the Civil Police hopes not only to raise awareness but also to foster a community-driven approach in locating those who have mysteriously disappeared.

According to Tarcísio Oto, the head of the DEPD, this social media effort is part of a broader strategy to improve communication with the public and to utilize technology in the fight against disappearances. This innovative tactic comes at a time when traditional methods of search may fall short, thereby offering a new ray of hope for families searching for their loved ones in the region.
