Chungju Man: Subscription Cancellations Surge After Resignation

After the resignation of Kim Seon-tae, a popular public officer known as 'Chungju Man,' the subscriber count for the official YouTube channel of Chungju city dropped significantly by more than 150,000 in three days.

The resignation of Kim Seon-tae, the Chungju city official who gained fame through the city's official YouTube channel 'ChungTV' as 'Chungju Man,' has led to a dramatic fall in the channel's subscriber count. As reported, the channel saw a decline of over 150,000 subscribers in just three days following the announcement of his resignation. Specifically, the channel had around 975,000 subscribers before the news broke on November 13, but by November 16, the count plummeted to approximately 800,000. This fluctuation indicates the strong influence that Kim had on the channel's audience.

Kim announced his departure in a farewell video titled 'Last Greeting,' stating, "After seven years as Chungju Man, I am here to say goodbye." Following this announcement, the city government revealed that he had submitted his resignation to the personnel department and had entered long-term leave since November 12. The sudden change highlights not only Kim's popularity but also the role of social media personalities in shaping public engagement with local governance. Kim's unique charm, witty interactions, and playful editing style has garnered him a significant following, and his recent collaboration with actor Park Jung-min on the channel reflects his active presence until very recently.
