‘Chungju Man’ Kim Seon-tae Leaves Behind 970,000 Subscribers... Chungju City Says 'Sudden Resignation'
Kim Seon-tae, known as ‘Chungju Man’ from Chungju City's official YouTube channel, has submitted his resignation unexpectedly after gaining significant popularity.
Kim Seon-tae, a public officer from Chungju City and popular figure on the city’s official YouTube channel 'ChungTV' known as 'Chungju Man,' has recently submitted his resignation. The Chungju City government confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to the HR department and has since begun a long-term leave from work. A city representative described his resignation as 'sudden,' indicating that Kim did not disclose any future plans following his departure.
Kim gained fame through his witty commentary and unique editing style that resonates with the audience's sense of humor, drawing nearly 975,000 subscribers to the ChungTV channel. He continued to actively produce content until his resignation, including a recent video featuring actor Park Jung-min. Previously, upon surpassing 900,000 subscribers in October last year, Kim expressed his gratitude in a video while reaffirming his intent to retire upon reaching one million subscribers, thus prompting fans to subscribe quickly to help him achieve this goal.
Starting his public service career as a level 9 civil servant in 2016, Kim received significant recognition for his contributions to promoting Chungju City and its official YouTube channel, leading to a remarkable promotion to level 6 after just seven years of service — a process that typically takes around 15 years. His departure raises questions about the future direction of the city’s online engagement and content strategy, reflecting both the individual impact of Kim’s presence and the role of social media in local government outreach.
