Cold records for the second decade of the month have been set in Liepāja and Rucava

This week, Latvia has witnessed record low temperatures, with Rucava experiencing -27.5 degrees Celsius, breaking past records from February.

On Monday morning, Rucava recorded an astonishing temperature drop to -27.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous cold records for both February 16th and the second decade of the month at this weather observation station. According to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC), the previous record for the second decade of February was held by a reading of -27.3 degrees on February 11, 1985. The coldest temperature recorded for the entire month was -33.7 degrees on February 1, 1956, highlighting the rarity and severity of this month’s cold snap.
