LIVE TODAY | A new team ski jumping competition debuts at the Olympics
A new ski jumping team competition format will debut at the Milano Cortina Olympics, featuring only two members per team instead of four.
Today at 20:00 EEST, ETV2 and ERR sports portal will present a live broadcast of the men's pair competition in ski jumping at the Milano Cortina Olympics. The commentary will be provided by Kristjan Kalkun and Kaarel Nurmsalu, with reporter Johannes Vedru. This year's Olympics marks a significant change in format, reducing the team size from four members, a tradition upheld from 1988 to 2022, to two members per team, with a total of 17 pairs competing.
Among the participants is the Estonian duo Artti Aigro and Kaimar Vagul, who will enter the competition amid strong contenders. Notably, past medal winners will likely lead the charge, such as Olympic large hill champion Domen Prevc, competing alongside Anže Lanišek, and normal hill champion Philipp Raimund, paired with Andreas Wellinger. The competition also features a formidable Japanese team with Ren Nikaido and Ryoyu Kobayashi, while the Austrian team includes Jan Hörli and Stefan Embacher.
The new format emphasizes strategic collaboration and skill, setting the stage for highly competitive matches. The shift from larger teams to pairs is anticipated to enhance individual performance visibility and may attract a fresh audience interested in dynamic Olympic events. As the competition unfolds, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact team dynamics and overall outcomes at the games.
