Iraqi envoy arrives in Geneva in preparation for the second round of negotiations with the United States

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Geneva for the second round of nuclear negotiations with the US, amid cautious expectations from the Iranian side.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva leading a diplomatic and technical delegation to engage in the second round of nuclear negotiations, scheduled to take place on Tuesday. The Iranian Foreign Ministry indicated that Araghchi would meet with his counterparts from Oman and Switzerland, as well as Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, among other officials. This meeting is seen as pivotal in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran's nuclear program.

According to Axios, the American delegation participating in the negotiations will include Jared Kushner, a senior advisor to President Donald Trump, and special envoy Steve Mnuchin, highlighting the high-level nature of these discussions. The involvement of the US at such expertise levels suggests a strong interest in achieving a breakthrough in the negotiations. However, amidst this diplomatic activity, Iranian officials including members of the National Security Committee in Tehran have expressed skepticism regarding the talks, citing past incidents of US violations of agreements as a basis for their lack of optimism.

Iranian officials articulated a firm stance going into the discussions, stating that they would not engage in discussions regarding halting uranium enrichment or the reduction of their enriched stockpile, nor would they touch upon missile issues or regional matters. These conditions underscore the complexities and limitations that characterize the ongoing negotiations, as both sides prepare for critical discussions amid heightened expectations and existing geopolitical tensions.
