Canberra man denied bail after allegedly stalking married couple
A Canberra man has been denied bail following charges of stalking a married couple, during which he allegedly left notes and repeatedly visited their home and workplace.
A 39-year-old Canberra man, Kristaps Fridemanis, has been denied bail after being charged with two counts of stalking a married couple from Lyneham. The alleged incidents occurred between January and February of this year, with the man reportedly having never met the couple prior to these actions. The ACT Magistrates Court heard that Mr. Fridemanis visited the couple's home multiple times, once claiming to be an arborist seeking access to the property. Additionally, he allegedly attempted to tamper with their doorbell camera while leaving several disturbing notes for them.
In the court proceedings, it was revealed that Mr. Fridemanis left multiple letters, one of which accused the husband of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct at work, further intensifying the couple's distress. ACT Policing outlined that he would reportedly observe the residence after delivering the notes, adding an unsettling layer to the already troubling instances of alleged stalking. This pattern of behavior has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of the married couple, who have reported feeling threatened.
Mr. Fridemanis appeared in court supported by his partner and children, but the gravity of the charges led to the denial of bail. As the legal proceedings continue, the case sheds light on issues of stalking and harassment, prompting discussions about legal protections for individuals who find themselves victims of such invasive and distressing behaviors.
