Man continued stalking ex-wife despite being in custody
A 54-year-old man was sentenced to three months in prison after continuing to stalk his ex-wife shortly after being released from custody.
In early January, a 54-year-old man was released from custody after being held for previous stalking of his ex-wife. However, just hours after his release, he resumed his harassment, posting on Facebook about his ex-wife and his prison time. The post, which stated he was "back" and referenced his recent incarceration, was shared shortly after his release, highlighting the troubling nature of his behavior.
During his court proceedings, the prosecutor, Agnes Møller, emphasized that the quick return to stalking behavior influenced the length of his sentence, which was three months—a notably harsh punishment for a first-time stalking offense. The man had received a restraining order in December 2023, forbidding him from contacting the woman, but the order did not deter him from mentioning her in public posts.
The case sheds light on the challenges authorities face in protecting victims of stalking, as this man’s blatant disregard for legal boundaries poses serious concerns about victim safety. The incident not only underscores the ongoing issue of domestic stalking but also raises questions about the effectiveness of existing legal measures to curb such behavior, particularly in immediate post-custody scenarios.
